Did you know Jacqueline Mesmaeker’s Caméra non assistée (1996-2010,Video) and Conversation au bord de la Seine, 1984-2017 are both part of the Collection M HKA, Antwerp?
Caméra non assistée includes recordings of the night-time views from windows.
The dates of the recordings are displayed on the image. At first sight the “unaided camera” appears to give a simple, direct and objective account of a trivial view. Yet, there is more than meets the eye. The film is questioned by connecting cinemato- graphic components – recording, projection, light – with visual and architectural elements, such as window blinds and streetlights. The entire montage aims to widen perception. (photo : Jacqueline Mesmaeker, Caméra non assistée,1996-2010 ©Jacqueline Mesmaeker)
